24 May JANUARY FIRST FRIDAY ARTIST: John Meszaros
About John Meszaros
Ever since he was a kid, He was interested in both art and science. His parents were always taking him to zoos, aquariums and museums, where he developed a love and fascination with the natural world. His love for science led him to a degree in Biology from the University of Michigan. Though his schedule was overwhelming, he still managed to find some time between lectures and homework to do a little art as a way to relax.
A pivotal point in his life was the summer he spent as an intern at the Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island in the Gulf of Maine. The hands-on experience with the cornucopia of life between the tides (and below them, too, with the aid of SCUBA gear) focused his interest on the marine world. Since then he has taken every opportunity to explore the oceans both above and below surface and in all climates from the cold New England sea thick with plankton and vibrant seaweeds, to the blue waters and coral reefs of Hawai’i, to the sandy worm reefs and mangrove forests of Florida’s southern coast. With his work, he tries to capture the vibrancy and diversity of these worlds.
He does careful research for each piece, reading through numerous guidebooks and scientific papers to ensure that each subject is portrayed accurately.
John currently live in Middletown, CT
